The Zeitschrift für Sozialforschung is the original publication of the Institut für Sozialforschung in Frankfurt, Germany. Established in 1932 under the editorial direction of Max Horkheimer, it published highly significant work in critical theory, social philosophy, political theory, aesthetics, and social anthropology. Publication of the journal continued in France after 1933 and in the U.S. after 1939. The final issues were published as Studies in Philosophy and Social Science.
