The 20th World Congress was held in Boston in1998. It was sponsored by the American Organizing Committee and six universities in the Boston area, in cooperation with the International Federation of Philosophical Societies. The theme of the conference was "Paideia: Philosophy Educating Humanity" and it was one of the largest gatherings of academic philosophers in the 20th century. The Proceedings of the Twentieth World Congress of Philosophy contain hundreds of invited and selected papers in twelve edited volumes.
