This volume contains papers presented at the conference of the International Society of African Philosophy and Studies (ISAPS), held at the University of Nairobi in March 2000. The theme of the conference - Thought and Practice in African Philosophy - expressed the conviction that philosophy should be relevant to people's lives. Participants included philosophers from Kenya, Ethiopia, Germany, South Africa, U.K., and the U.S. The event was sponsored by ISAPS and the University of Nairobi, with support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
