Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy International Association (SEPIA)

Libraries can support the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP) by joining the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy International Association (SEPIA), a membership organization under the sponsorship of Indiana University Libraries. SEPIA is building an endowment to provide ongoing funding for publication of the SEP as an open access source of scholarly information on philosophy.

The Philosophy Documentation Center serves as SEPIA's fiscal agent. Full members of SEPIA receive special benefits, including:

  • 1) protection of membership dues (dues will be returned if the SEP ever terminates)
  • 2) branding on SEP web pages
  • 3) a listing on the SEP Library Support page
  • 4) single-click download access to the SEP Archives
  • 5) SEP Archive storage rights
  • 6) the right to serve the SEP Archives if the SEP terminates.
  • The one-time rates for Full Membership in SEPIA are based on the number of philosophy departments in each country and general economic conditions. Institutions may join as Associate Members of SEPIA by paying lesser amounts than those recommended below for their class. Associate Members receive benefits 1-3 in the list above.

All membership dues will be transferred to Stanford, for deposit in the KAZAD fund, for the support of the SEP. Should the SEP cease to exist, the KAZAD fund shall be returned to the library members of SEPIA in porportion to the amount paid in.

The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition has designated the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy as a SPARC publisher partner, and is encouraging its members to use funds allocated from their SPARC purchase commitment to join SEPIA and help build the SEP endowment.

Recommended One-Time Dues Levels (including administrative fees):

NOTE: SEPIA dues may be paid at one time or in 3 annual installments. To request installment payment, or to join at a lower Associate Member level, send an email to order @ pdcnet.org with your request, and an adjusted invoice will be returned by email.
