Philosophia Africana published peer-reviewed philosophical or philosophically interdisciplinary work that explored pluralistic experiences of Africa and the Black Diaspora. It also selectively published critical interpretations of creative works that revealed vibrant intellectual cultures of modern Africa, the Black Diaspora, and other universally inclusive traditions of thought. Contributors included Kwame Anthony Appiah, Seyla Benhabib, Emmanuel Eze, Leonard Harris, Polycarp Ikuenobe, Charles W. Mills, and Naomi Zack.

  • Philosophia Africana received the Council of Editors of Learned Journals award for Best New Journal in 2002. It ceased publication of new issues in Fall 2016.
