Old Russian Cosmology and Theoretical Thinking: from Symbol to Concept
The study of cosmological ideas in the ancient Russian booklearning gives a fresh look at the formation of theoretical thinking in antiquity. The author offers a classification of cognitive types designed to clarify the sources of cosmological ideas in theological writings and in the world picture of Aristotle and Ptolemy as well as to show that the Stagirite’s space mechanics is a model based on observation, logical reasoning, and theoretical reading of sacred symbols as well.
