Established in 1964 by Juri Lotman (initially as Труды по знаковым системам - Σημειωτικη), Sign Systems Studies is the oldest international semiotic periodical. It publishes articles and reviews in English from scholars in many countries, and also accepts papers in Russian. Russian and Estonian language abstracts are included for all artiticles. This peer-reviewed journal has become a central institution in the semiotics of culture.
