How are we to distinguish epistemic justification for believing a proposition from other sorts of justification one might have for believing it? According to what I call the received view about the differentia of epistemic justification, epistemic justification is intimately connected to “the cognitive goal of arriving at truth” in a specific way no other sorts of justification can possibly be. However, I will argue that the received view is mistaken by showing that there are cases in which pragmatic justification for believing a proposition is related to the cognitive goal of arriving at truth in a way epistemic justification is supposed to be. The paper will close with a brief assessment of two possible rejoinders the received view might make to my objection.

This paper discusses Erhan Demicioglu’s approach to McGinn’s mysterianism. Demircioglu argues that the reasons why McGinn considers his cognitive closure idea to be true with respect to the solution of the mind-brain problem are not compatible with his claim about the existence of a naturalist solution to the mind-brain problem. However, I consider such a criticism to be the result of missing some important details in McGinn’s thesis on cognitive closure. In this study by analysing McGinn’s mysterianism I show that no contradiction exists between the reasons why McGinn presented his cognitive closure thesis and the existence of a naturalist solution to the mind-body problem.Bu makale Erhan Demircioğlu’nun McGinn’in gizemcilik görüşüne yaklaşımını tartışmaktadır.

In the last quarter of the 20th century, liberal multiculturalism was born out of individualistic liberalism. Whereas the latter takes as its starting point the individual, who is supposed to be protected against the intrusions of his/her culture, nation, or state via individual rights, and who is capable of leaving the cultural heritage s/he was raised into; the former takes human beings as cultural entities, and defends that individual freedom cannot be performed without the protection of culture and that cultural minority rights are the sine qua non for liberalism. In this essay, I will examine one of the most important versions of liberal multiculturalism, namely (multi)national liberalism, and argue that it is not pluralistic enough due to the fact that it has not created the necessary tools to accommodate the sort of pluralism that is formed out of minorities-within-minorities.

The concept of death, although appears as one of the fundemental problematic concepts of the history of philosophy, attained its ontological and existential content in Heidegger and Sartre. Heidegger positioned the phenomenon of death as a possibility that determines the existence of Dasein, and gives meaning to life. Unlike in Heidegger, in Sartre we confront with the concept at stake, as an absurd fact which evokes nausea and anxiety in the human being.

Bunu yaparken, Aristoteles’in potansiyel kavramına dair tartışması teorik kalkış noktası olacaktır. Bu eksenden hareketle makale Agamben’in Aristoteles’in potansiyel kavramına yaklaşımını nasıl açıkladığına ışık tutmaya çalışacaktır. Makalenin ana argümanı; Agamben’in Bartleby’sinin, Aristoteles’in edimselin potansiyele olan önceliğine vurgu yapan perspektifini ters yüz ettiğidir. The aim of this article is to discuss Giorgio Agamben’s reading of Bartleby, a text written by Herman Melville. In so doing, Aristotle’s debate concerning the concept of potentiality will be a theoretical point of departure. Moving from this axis, the article will attempt to shed light upon how Agamben explicates Aristotelian approach to the concept of potentiality. The major argument of the article is that Agamben’s Bartleby inverts Aristotle’s perspective that puts an emphasis on the priority of actuality over potentiality.
