Twenty-Five Years of Teaching Philosophy on CD-ROM
This
fully searchable CD-ROM contains the complete text of the first 25 volumes
of Teaching Philosophy, the only journal devoted to the practical
and theoretical discussion of teaching and learning philosophy. The varied
collection includes hundreds of articles, topical discussions, and reports,
as well as over a thousand reviews of books, software, and instructional
support materials. The journal is the largest single source of information
on teaching and pedagogy in philosophy, and this collection provides support
for all levels of philosophical instruction. Topics covered include:
- Theoretical issues in the teaching of philosophy, including the exploration
of the relation between philosophy and the teaching of philosophy, and
the examination of pedagogical problems confronting teachers of philosophy.
- Innovative methods, classroom strategems, and the use of new materials.
- Teaching experimental and interdisciplinary courses with philosophical
content, and such courses that develop the philosophical aspects of
other fields.
- Evaluation of teaching and assessment of learning in philosophy, as
well as philosophy faculty development and student counseling.
- New books, computer software, instructional videos, and Web based
resources of interest to teachers of philosophy.
Scholars and librarians will
be astonished by the power and accessibility of this database. The powerful
VIEWS® search engine can quickly find every word or phrase in the
collection and any Boolean combination can be searched with immediate
results. A hypertext table of contents provides an efficient means to
navigate to any item in any issue with just a few mouse clicks. Every
heading in the table of contents is a hypertext link to its corresponding
text and all headings are fully expandable. Clicking on the "+" next to
a particular volume will display the issues in that volume, and clicking
on the "+" next to a particular issue will display all the articles in
that issue. Click on one of the articles itself and the hypertext link
in the title takes you to the full-text display of that article. Once
you are viewing the full text, you can scroll to read the text just as
you would in the print version.
