The Intellectual Legacy of Michael Oakeshott
Corey Abel and Timothy Fuller, Editors
This volume brings together a diverse range of perspectives reflecting the international appeal
and multi-disciplinary interest in Michael Oakeshott and his work. The essays offer a variety of
approaches to Oakeshott’s thought — testament to the abiding depth, originality, and suggestiveness
of his writings. The essays were selected from among the best papers presented at the first two
international conferences of the Michael Oakeshott Association, in London
2001 and in Colorado Springs 2003. The authors include individuals who knew Oakeshott
personally as well as younger scholars who
have discovered his work. As a collection this volume challenges Oakeshott’s reputation as a
mere critic of social planning.
