Journal of Islamic Philosophy

Macksood Aftab, Executive Editor

The Journal of Islamic Philosophy is a peer-reviewed English language journal dedicated to the academic study of Islamic philosophy. This annual journal provides a unique forum to students, teachers, and researchers for the philosophical discussion of topics in Islamic thought. Classical Islamic philosophy of past masters will be re-examined with a new focus: the underlying issues in the many ethical, metaphysical, existential, and epistemological challenges posed by western and other philosophical traditions will be explored within an Islamic context. The journal hopes to serve as an impetus toward the renewal of a robust spirit of advanced Islamic philosophical discourse and as an introduction to this rich tradition. Each annual issue includes both philosophical articles and reviews, and supplemental issues may also be published on occasion.

The Journal of Islamic Philosophy is supported by an international editorial board including Mustafa Abu Sway (Al-Quds University), Mashhad Al-Allaf (St.Louis University), Munawar Anees (John Templeton Foundation), Majid Fakhry (Georgetown University), Waheed Ishrat (Iqbal Academy), and Ibrahim Kalin (College of the Holy Cross). The journal is indexed in Humanities International Index and electronic access is provided through POIESIS: Philosophy Online Serials. Tables of contents and several sample articles are available here.

"There has been a growing recognition of the influence of Islam's intellectual legacy on the development of ideas in the West. For this legacy has much to to say about the perennial problems of philosophy. Its insights remain relevant to us to-day. The legacy is very rich, and although there has been tangible progress in understanding it, there remains much to be investigated. A journal devoted to Islamic philosophy is certainly welcome." — Michael Marmura, University of Toronto
