The new edition of the International Directory of Philosophy and Philosophers is the only edited source for extensive information on philosophical activity in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, and Latin America. It contains edited listings for over 1200 university and college philosophy programs, 220 research centers, 250 professional societies and associations, 690 academic journals, and 540 philosophy publishers in 110 countries. It also contains multiple indexes, an extensive table of academic abbreviations in several languages, and the names of approximately 14,000 philosophy faculty with their academic ranks and philosophical specialties. This directory is the most comprehensive single source of information on philosophical activity in these areas available in print or electronic formats.

The International Directory of Philosophy and Philosophers was established in 1965 with the support of UNESCO and has been published by the Philosophy Documentation Center since 1972. It is published every two years, alternating with its companion volume the Directory of American Philosophers. Together these publications provide a comprehensive overview of organized philosophical activity around the world.
