Otteson, Editor This anthology provides an overview of the philosophical writings of Adam Smith (172390), one of the chief figures of the astonishing period known as the Scottish Enlightenment. It includes sections of his two major books - The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776) - as well as selections from his lectures on jurisprudence, his history and philosophy of science, his criticism and belles lettres, and his philosophy of language. Also includes are two important letters from the philosopher David Hume, as well as Smith's account of Hume's death.
